Violet is an HIV and AIDS care-worker. Before her Unwrapped bike arrived, she had to walked 20km a day to reach her patients. But thanks to this two-wheeled wonder, she’s now spending less time traveling and more time caring. Miles more smiles all round.
In Malawi, 14 per cent of the population are living with HIV and AIDS, so the work of community carers like Violet is absolutely vital. But without transport, she was forced to walk to visit patients. That made it impossible for her to see everyone who needed her. Amazingly, when her patients fell sick, Violet would often carry them the 30km to the nearest hospital on her back.
But that was then. With her new bike, Violet can get from A to B fast. She can see more patients, and spend more time with each one. And with the addition of a specially designed bike-stretcher, she can get patients to hospital quickly.
