Sixty squeaky-clean lifesavers that’ll help protect people like Kolo in Uganda. Soap saves lives. In crowded camps and emergency situations it stops the spread of deadly diseases.
Uganda. Since the soap arrived, he’s seen a dazzling difference. “Oxfam told us about good hygiene. They distributed soap and now, look around you…everywhere is clean. People don’t fall sick regularly here.”
Fighting in northern Uganda has left hundreds of thousands of people scattered across the region, and living in camps. Hygiene is one of the first casualties of this enforced intimacy and soap is one of Oxfam’s key weapons against the spread of disease.
As part of a wider hygiene awareness programme, Oxfam Unwrapped distributed soap to 38,030 households, enough to keep the germs at bay for another 2 months. Clearly the best solution, ‘bar’ none. Just ask Kolo: “I pray to God that Oxfam continues to support us. Oxfam helped to educate people about hygiene and sanitation and people are following the messages. Even the children are very healthy – see how they are playing”.
