Artisan Hut was founded to deal with the crisis of traditional workers being pushed out by the demand for 'fast fashion'. They employ workers with traditional skills such as handweaving, spinning, block printing and hand embroidery, and they are paid up to 100% more than they'd earn in the commercial sector.
Asma started working for Artisan Hut when her husband fell ill. She says: "Because of Fair Trade we are paid higher wages, have a good working environment, a community workshop and even a scholarship for our children. I never thought business people could think for their workers in this way.".
