Les Tres Riches Heures de Jean, Duc de Berry - Janvier

£22.00

Product description

This premier edition plate of the collection Les Tres Riches Heures de Jean, Duc de Berry features the month of Janvier (January). Taken from the medieval manuscript the Book of Hours this plate reflects a scene of great festivity and merriment. On this cold January day at the chateau of the Duc de Berry in the village of Bicetre just south of Paris, the great hall provides welcome and respite from the harshness of the weather. Food and wine are consumed and gifts exchanged by those present who are dressed in their finest. The artist and renowned miniaturist Jean Dutheil captures the mood, colour and atmosphere of this fifteenth-century New Year event whilst the quality of the Lemoges porcelain process allows the vivid colours and vitality of the scene to be brought to life, even in the smallest of detail, and so much to see.

This 9.5 inch plate comes with certificate of authenticity, replicated on the back with Bradex number, wrapped in its original velvet pouch and box and information brochure explaining the history and processes involved.
