Traditional Kente Cloth African Art fabric From Ghana.
This muti-coloured and highly patterned woven fabric remnant is in traditional designs of the Ashanti People.
The designs are woven by hand in narrow strips approximately 4" wide, the colours and designs chosen have symbolic meanings.
Black----maturation, aging, intensified spiritual energy
Blue------peacefulness, harmony, good fortune, love
Gold-----royalty, wealth, spiritual purity
Green----vegetation, planting, harvesting, growth, good health
Grey-----healing and cleansing rituals; associated with ash
Maroon--the color of mother earth; associated with healing and protection from evil
Pink-----associated with the female essence of life; calmness, sweetness, tenderness
Red------political and spiritual associations; bloodshed; sacrificial rites and death
Silver----serenity, purity, joy; associated with the moon
White---purification, sanctification rites, healing
Yellow---preciousness, royalty, wealth, fertility (yolk of an egg)
This remnant measures 16" wide (composed of 4 x 4" strips machine stitched together) and 2 yards long approximately and is in good condition.
The fibre is cotton and the fabric is a medium weight similar to a canvas.
The fabric could be used as a table runner, wall hanging or incorporated into a craft project, this fabric is going to attract attention.
