Europe's Ryder Cup triumph E

WAS £3.99 £1.99

Product description

A celebration of Europe's three successive wins in the Ryder Cup in 2002, 2004 and 2006. Frustrating the US who corner nearly every other success in the game of golf regularly, the determined top flight golfers of Europe have robbed them of three successive Ryder Cups, and stridently. Sam Torrance has a long history in the game - having sunk the US hopes in 1985 at The Belfry but in the 34th Ryder in 2002 - he had the chance to do it a second time as he captained the Europeans to a 15½ - 12½ victory. In America in 2004, the US were determined to turn things around and looked like doing just that as the Europeans entered the tournament as underdogs. Colin Montgomerie, however, watched in disbelief as he drained the last putt that led to a record-breaking 18½ -9½ victory - leaving the Americans better beaten than they'd ever been on home soil in the history of the tourney. In September 2006 in Ireland, you'd have been forgiven for betting on Europe's luck running out. With a team of American leviathans like the mighty Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk and Jim Lehman leading the pack, surprisingly it was younger players like the Luke Donald and Swedish Rookie Henrik Stenson who ultimately took the day after dismal performances from many US stars, particularly Tiger Woods.
