A Message To The Empire (Broadcast on Christmas Day, 1935)
Read by H.M. King George V
(Label also reads: The profits from this record are being paid to charities nominated by H.M. The King)
One sided12" 78 rpm record in a company sleeve, with non-playing side embossed with 'His Master's Voice' in large letters.
On the HMV label, Catalogue No. RCS 2811
The record has been visually examined under a strong halogen lamp and is in at least Very Good condition. The surface is marked but not with readily noticeable scratches, but I would hesitate to say that it is in Excellent condition. Having said that, and judging by its appearance, I would guess that there would be very little deterioration in sound quality and, to look at it in normal light, it has a gloss that you would not expect on a record that is over 75 years old.
It is not clear if the company sleeve is the original, but it is split along one seam.
Overall Visuall grading (record/cover - Please see below for an overview of our gradings):
VG plus / Fair
We are selling this record in "as donated condition" and advise the prospective purchaser to have the record professionally cleaned to bring it to its best condition.
We visually examine all our records under a strong halogen lamp and grade our records according to the Rare Record Price Guide (record/sleeve), as follows:
Mint - Must be sealed or we must have evidence that it has never been played.
Excellent - No scratches, not even 'hairline' ones, or any visible damage to the vinyl whatsoever.
Very Good - The first mild scratches have begun to appear, but only very, very few.
Good - More scratches than Very Good and more severe, but we are confident that the record will play through with no problems.
Fair - It may not play through properly.
Poor - It definitely won't play.
Below Excellent we may use plus or minus with a grade
We post all our vinyl using stiffeners and card mailers.
