Bartered Bride - Smetana (1981 Czech staging of 3-Act opera 3 x CDs)

£8.99

Product description

(featuring the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zdenek Kosler & Czech Philharmonic Chorus, conducted by Josef Veselka, in a Dec 1980 - Feb 1981 production. Starring soprano Garbiela Benackova-Capova as Marenka, and tenor Peter Dvorsky as Jenik)

Bedrich Smetana's music for The Bartered Bride abounds with freshness and vitality, its energy generated by bold contrasts of mood and atmosphere, the exuberance of its folk-like rhythms and the catchiness of its tunes.

Marenka & Jenik are in love, but her father wants her to marry the son of the wealthiest man in town. In the end, youth and cunning outsmart age and power, and the constraints of rural life are thrown off for a while when the circus comes to town.

Disc One : Overture & Act One (47:18).
Disc Two : Act Two (36:26).
Disc Three : Act Three (53:09).

All three CDs are in EX- condition.
