Concerto for Piano & Orch. - Schumann / Variations Symph. for piano & orch - Franck - TP 71

£5.99

Product description

Robert Schumann had tried , and failed, to write a piano concerto, twice, in young age. It must have been the effect of love, therefore, that enabled him to complete the piece on this album, for his darling Clara, who was an accomplished pianist in her own right, and had requested a concerto that she could debut.

Schumann's piece, which he entitled 'Phantasie for Piano and Orchestra in A minor', initially fell foul of some audiences, because of the way it begins, with the piano starting right at the outset, and taking part in the unfolding of the music all the way through. Listeners were, at the time, used to piano concertos beginning with a long orchestral exposition.

Robert Schumann's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor, Op.54 :-
Side One : 1) Allegro affettuoso 2) Intermezzo
Side Two : 1) Allegro vivace

'Variations Symphoniques for Piano and Orchestra' were part of a range of pieces written by Cesar Franck in 1884-85, as part of his desire to revive older forms of piano music in the terms of late 19C, keyboard technique.

Side Two : 2) Cesar Franck's Variations Symphoniques for Piano and Orchestra

Records graded visually to RRPG grades (record/sleeve) EX-/VG+.
