The package consists of two compact discs, containing the March/April 1995, recording of the 1695 version of "Don Quixote", at the BBC Maida Vale studios, for Radio 3.

It includes works by : Henry Purcell (the official composer for string music, for Charles II, James II, and William & Mary, and the greatest English composer of the 17C) ; John Eccles (Late 17C/Early 18C fine English composer, who generally held up the tradition of excellent English classical music, until Handel's permanent move to England) ; and John Lenton (another fine English composer, who was part of "The King's Musick" troupe of violinists, under Charles II, and also played at the coronations of Charles II and James II).

This Mid Nineties recording, features actor Paul Scofield in the lead role, as Don Quixote. Among the singers, are sopranos Emma Kirkby & Evelyn Tubb ; tenors Joseph Cornwell & Andrew King ; bass-singers Simon Grant & David Thomas ; and baritone Roy Hudd. The music was provided by the three groups, The Consort of Musicke, The City Waites & The Purcell Simfony.
