German Requiem (pts. 1-5 LP one, 6-7 LP two) - Johannes Brahms / Te Deum - Bruckner (LP two) - XLP 30073/74

£10.99

Product description

(Both works performed by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Rudolf Kempe, with Choir of St Hedwig's Cathedral { "German Requiem" rec.d Jun 1955 , with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Elisabeth Grummer on main vocals ; "Te Deum" rec.d 1962 , with Agnes Giebel, Marga Hoffgen, Josef Traxel, and Gottlob Frick on main vocals })

Johannes Brahms' "German Requiem", was possibly planned, as a tribute to Robert Schumann, who had mentored Johannes for many years. Schumann's subsequent descent into mental illness, followed by his passing away, had a very traumatic effect on Brahms, as did the death of Johannes' mother.

Side One : German Requiem Op.45, by Brahms (1866) :-
1) I Selig sind, die Leid tragen 2) II Denn alles Fletsch es ist wie Gras
Side Two : German Requiem (continued...) :-
1) III Herr, lehre doch mich 2) IV Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen 3) V Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit
Side Three : German Requiem (conclusion) :-
1) VI Denn wir haben hier 2) VII Selig sind die Toten.

Anton Bruckner's penultimate big choral work, and the Austrian's favourite, was "Te Deum". It is noted for magnificently retaining the note of triumph throughout its duration.
Side Four : Te Deum, by Bruckner (1884).

Records graded visuallly to RRPG grades
(disc one / sleeve one / disc two / sleeve two) EX / EX- / EX / EX-.
