Piano Concerto 2 / Choral Fantasia - L v Beethoven (particularly lightly scored & elegant concerto - - ASD 2608)

£6.99

Product description

(recorded 1968, featuring legends : Daniel Barenboim on piano ; Otto Klemperer conducting the New Philharmonia Orchestra)

Ludwig van Beethoven's Second Piano Concerto in B flat, debuted on March 29 1795, when the German composer was 24. It has often been described as 'Mozartian' and 'elegant', in style, and, if unfinished works are disregarded, then it was in fact his first piano concerto.

This concerto is lightly scored, for strings with one flute and two each of oboes, bassoons and horns. There are no clarinets, trumpets, trombones, nor drums.

Side One : Piano Concerto No.2 in B flat major, Op.19, by Beethoven :-
1) I Allegro con brio - Cadenza - Tempo I 2) II Adagio

Side Two : Piano Concerto No.2 (continued ...) :-
1) III Rondo (molto allegro)

The Choral Fantasia shares a fact about it's creation, with the previous Piano Concerto No.2...they were both completed in a hurry ! The Vienna concert that the Choral Fantasia was debuted at, was a particularly memorable one, for both legendary Symphonies 5 & 6 also made their debuts at this concert.

Side Two : 2) Choral Fantasia in C major, Op.80

Records graded visually to RRPG grades (record/sleeve) EX/EX.
