By the early 1940s, the works of Soviet composers, were changing. The satirical overtones and acerbity that, had characterised much of their output, in the twenties to mid-thirties, gave way to more traditionally-inspired forms, harking back to the nineteenth-century romantic Russian era.
Amongst this new wave of composers, getting a fair hearing, was Aram Khachaturian, from Armenia.
Side One : Piano Concerto, by Khachaturian :-
1) Allegro Maestoso 2) Andante con Anima
Side Two : Piano Concerto (continued...) :-
1) Allegro Brillante
Concluding the album, is Ernest Bloch's "Scherzo Fantasque" (1948), a classic showpiece for piano and orchestra.
Side Two : 2) Scherzo Fantasque, by Bloch.
