Piano Concerto - Khachaturian / Scherzo Fantasque - Bloch (L Hollander pianist, early Previn cond. LP - [RCA Red Seal] RB-6638)

£6.99

Product description

This is an early album (1965), to feature Andre Previn as a classical conductor, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. US pianist Lorin Hollander is the soloist. It is an RCA Victor label (photos two and three).

By the early 1940s, the works of Soviet composers, were changing. The satirical overtones and acerbity that, had characterised much of their output, in the twenties to mid-thirties, gave way to more traditionally-inspired forms, harking back to the nineteenth-century romantic Russian era.

Amongst this new wave of composers, getting a fair hearing, was Aram Khachaturian, from Armenia.

Side One : Piano Concerto, by Khachaturian :-
1) Allegro Maestoso 2) Andante con Anima
Side Two : Piano Concerto (continued...) :-
1) Allegro Brillante

Concluding the album, is Ernest Bloch's "Scherzo Fantasque" (1948), a classic showpiece for piano and orchestra.
Side Two : 2) Scherzo Fantasque, by Bloch.

Records graded visually to RRPG grades (record/sleeve) EX-/VG+.
