Symphony 9 (EU theme) / Symph 1 - L v Beethoven , cond. Arturo Toscanini , 2 LPs - ALP 1039/40

£10.99

Product description

The first album, in this twin set, contains the first three movements (the Fourth, being on album two), of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, which will familiar to anyone who has watched extensive coverage of an EU pomp event ! To many, one of the noblest musical visions of all time (although the same could be said, about Ludwig's symphonies 3, 5, 6, and 8), the first sketches of Symphony Nine were written in 1815, but it was not completed until 1824.

The Italian, Arturio Toscanini, was the perfect choice to conduct these recordings, known, as he was, for never taking shortcuts, in Ludwig's scores.
Side One : Symphony No.9 ('Choral') in D minor Op.125, by Beethoven :-
I Allegro ma non troppo, un poco maestoso
Side Two : Symphony No.9 (continued...) :-
1) II Molto vivace 2) II Adagio molto e cantabile - Andante moderato - Adagio
Side Three : Symphony No.9 (conclusion) :-
IV Presto - Allegro ma non troppo - Allegro assai - Presto - Allegro assai - Allegro assai vivace, Alla marcia - Andante maestoso - Allegro energico, sempre ben marcato - Allegro ma non tanto - Poco adagio - Prestissimo.

Beethoven worked on Side Four's First Symphony, between 1795 and 1800. A great success, it is known for its fiery First Movement, the very sing-able Second, a speedy, rhythmically insistent Third, and is rounded off by a Fourth that begins with a series of witty violin "false starts", followed by many Haydenesque, carefree moments.
Side Four : Symphony No.1 in C major Op.21, by Beethoven :-
1) I Adagio molto - Allegro con brio 2) II Andante cantabile con moto 3) III Menuetto - Allegro molto e vivace 4) IV Adagio - Allegro molto e vivace.

Records graded visually to RRPG grades (disc one / sleeve one / disc two / sleeve two) EX / EX- / EX / EX-.
