Violin Conc. 1 - Bruch (one of very best) / Conc. for Violin & Orch. - Paganini (violin "gymnastics" & technical mastery) CD

£5.99

Product description

(recorded in the Soviet days, with soloist Ivan Cerkov, accompanied by the Soviet State Orchestra, conducted by Grzegor Scigalsky)

Max Bruch's (1838-1920) Violin Concerto No.1 has been variously described as "Superb", "Masterpiece", and "One of the Very Best". Indeed, this 1866 work did leave the composer somewhat bereft of ideas, in its wake, and today, Max Bruch is often seen as a 'one-hit wonder' composer (an unfair label, as testified by listening to works, such as his Scottish Fantasy for Violin, or Kol Nidrei for Cello).

One of the reasons, that soloists love Violin Concerto No.1, as much as the listeners, is the degree that the work is a showcase for the capabilities of the instrument. The passages are virtuosic and glorious, and the violin "sings" in this concerto.

Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor, op.26, by Bruch :-
1) I Vorspiel : Allegro Moderato 2) II Adagio 3) III Finale : Allegro Energico

Paganini's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No.5, is one of six. Only the solo part, is genuine Paganini ... Mompellio later filled in the missing pieces, although the consensus, is that this is very close to Paganini's 1830 work. It contains some brilliant "violin gymnastics" while the solo part showcases Paganini's brilliant technical mastery.

Concerto for Violin & Orchestra No.5 in A minor, by Paganini :-
4) I Allegro Maestoso 5) II Andante Un Poco Sostenuto 6) III Rondo Andantino Quasi Alegretto

The CD is in EX condition.
