Celina lives in Nyamikamba in northern Rwanda. Two years ago her family received a goat from Oxfam Unwrapped. Today their bearded wonder is giving them milk and helping to fertilise their crops. It’s even had kids of its own, which have been sold to pay for everything from school uniforms to medicines.
In Rwanda, 1 in 5 children never see their fifth birthday, and 60% of the people live in poverty. But with her Oxfam Unwrapped goat, Celina has real hope for the future.
Celina’s dad, Fidel Muberarugo, says: “As a farmer, I was excited to get the goat. Soon afterwards I was able to fertilise my crops. Even better, the goat has now produced several kids. We’ve been able to sell one in order to buy school uniforms for my children and things like soap and food for my entire family.”
Celina says: “We say thank you. People shouldn’t underestimate how important a goat can be for a family in Africa.”
