Life in Copan, Honduras was hard for José and his family. His smallholding wasn’t producing enough food to eat, and there was nothing to sell at market. Now, life is easier, because there is more to eat and sell. José is growing more food, and marketing his produce more effectively. Amazing what you can grow with a few seeds…
Because of these little seeds, over 2000 families are now getting more from their vegetable gardens. They’re growing more marketable crops alongside their staples, and using new techniques – such as irrigation – to boost their output. Now they can produce more, for longer in the year.
José and the other community farmers are using farmers’ markets, and keeping unused seeds in seed banks for a rainy day – vital for future food security. A bigger income means better living conditions and a brighter future for these rural farming families.
