Here’s a protection package for the world’s woodlands and the people who depend on them. The world’s woods can be a brilliant source of shelter and income - but only if they’re treated with respect.
In Colombia, Oxfam Unwrapped has provided education, workshops and technological support to help people make agricultural processes more environmentally friendly and so protect the forest, soil and water quality.
Wilfram Ruíz from Peña Blanca village in Rosas-Cauca says: "With the support from Oxfam and [a local partner organisation] we continue progressing and making way to improve our farms, our lives, keeping our traditions and defending our land.”
“We have been able to stay in our land thanks to our persistence, growing our vegetables gardens, raising [chickens], protecting our forests and water sources, and bringing our magic ancient stories to life, that way this big home of the mountains of this part of the Andes will always exist!"
