This gift in action

Ntombizodwa Marufu lives in central Zimbabwe, and is very proud of her latrine. "Because of Oxfam, I’ve got a toilet at home. We also had training in how to use it. It helps prevent disease spreading to my children and the community. The toilet is a real inheritance, something to pass to the children. It’s very beautiful. It has a tap for washing hands and a tank to catch rainwater. I keep it clean and cherish it very much. " Margaret Muchiurawa, from Gutu district in the neighbouring province, agrees how vital even simple facilities can be: “I am one of my village’s Community Health Club facilitators. We hold lots of workshops about health and sanitation. We’ve shown people about building temporary toilets at home which they can do by using just grass and mud. And we teach people about the importance of washing hands after you go to the toilet. “People enjoy the workshops and realise that they can live in a nicer home which is clean and they are more healthy, they are happy with what we are doing.”
