What is Oxfam Unwrapped?

Oxfam Unwrapped is made up of 30 unique virtual charity gifts, it's simple, you purchase a gift, we send a card to a recipient, and in doing so you help to lift the lives of others out of poverty. We offer an assortment of gifts to give to your friends and family on any occasion: Christmas, birthdays, or Father's and Mother's Day and even wedding gifts.

For example you can choose a gift, such as a Goat or Safe water for 10 people and know that not only are you giving a great gift, but you are also helping to improve the lives of people living in poverty.

Once you've chosen your gift, you or your recipient gets a great gift card (we offer the choice whether you want to send the card directly to the recipient or to yourself to pass it on in person) and our special sticky notes. If you're a green warrior or in need of a last minute gift, you can send an e-card instead of (or as well as) a printed card. You'll do this at the checkout.

There are 30 gifts to choose from. They range in price starting from £5 to £50. To see the full selection go to www.oxfamunwrapped.com.

We also offer a range of corporate gifts

When I buy an Oxfam Unwrapped gift what does the person I'm buying for actually receive?

When you buy an Oxfam Unwrapped charity gift the recipient gets a gift card with information about the present you chose and the difference it makes to a family or community in a developing country. You can choose to have this delivered to your address so you can pass it on in person, or you can have it sent directly to the recipient. If you prefer, you can send an e-card instead of (or as well as) a printed card. All our printed cards include our special goat notes (sticky notes) inside.

Oxfam Unwrapped gifts can be ordered online, by phone or by post. If you order online you can either choose a card that features a picture of your chosen gift, or change the image to suit a special occasion, e.g. a wedding or birthday (there are 12 occasion card images to choose from at checkout).

You can also customise your gift card with a personal message, if you order online or over the phone. If you choose to send an e-card, you can choose the date you'd like your e-card to arrive.

If you order by post you can either choose a card that features a picture of your chosen gift, or you can change the image (there are four Christmas cards to choose from). Unfortunately we cannot add a personalised message when ordering by post. If you wish to do so then you will need to order online or call our friendly team on 0300 200 1252.

How is my money spent?

The money that you and many others spend on Oxfam Unwrapped gifts will support the full range of Oxfam's work. There is a gift code allocated to each gift and this shows how we'll spend your money. You can tell which type of project your gift will support from the last two letters of the gift code. For example our Goat gift code is OU8010ML. ML stands for Make a Living projects. All of the money from gifts with the Make a Living code will be spent on our projects that enable people to generate a sustainable income, put food on the table and learn to cope with the impacts of climate change. For example training farmers, distributing livestock and teaching business skills. Unwrapped gifts support four categories of Oxfam's work.

Are the animals ethically treated?

Oxfam shares your concerns about animal welfare. Oxfam supports communities by providing livestock, and it is not without taking this highly-important issue into account.

Oxfam takes a holistic approach to overcoming poverty. Distributing livestock is part of a larger sustainable livelihood programme. We consult with local communities who have traditions of care for livestock, and we have also created a set of welfare guidelines to ensure that all livestock is well cared for. These guidelines are supported by the RSPCA and were developed with the Humane Society of the US. We provide training to beneficiaries and local animal healthcare workers so there is ongoing support for the animals.

Can I keep track of my gift?

When you buy a gift your money goes into a specific funding category and Oxfam will spend the money on items and activities related to that category. For example, if you buy a 'Goat' gift, your funds will go into the Making a Living category and could support a livestock project, but they could also help us to train farmers or women in business skills. Can I send my e-card to more than one person?

Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to send individual e-cards to multiple email addresses unless you're purchasing a corporate multi-card pack.

However, if you are buying a large gift as a group, and would like to send the e-card to more than one person, you can send the e-card to yourself, and then forward the email to the rest of the group. This option should only be used by fundraising groups.
