Care for mums

£16.00

Product description

It’s one of the toughest jobs in the world. But motherhood is even tougher when women can’t access free health care. This gift will help make sure thousands of mothers get the support they deserve. For example, it could train midwives and birth attendants, or teach pregnant women about the need for skilled delivery – knowledge that will potentially save their lives. Or it might ensure governments provide essential medical care for free. It’s the mother of all Unwrapped gifts.

This gift supports our Investing in the Future (IN) projects.

Care for mums

Ghana’s maternal mortality rate is alarmingly high. Oxfam is there to make sure mums stay healthy – and children stay happy. In Ghana, around 75 women die each week during pregnancy and childbirth. Napari Muniru lost three children this way. During the birth of her seventh child, she suffered life threatening complications and was rushed to hospital over 70km of uneven roads. Specialist care saved Napari’s life, and the life of baby Safia. Oxfam is standing up for mothers in Ghana by training birth attendants and midwives. We’re teaching pregnant women about the need for skilled help during childbirth. And we’re campaigning for free health care for all, so every mother gets the support she deserves. Because of your gift today we'll be able to help someone else like Napari. Thank you.
