All gifts are sent by 1st class post within 3 working days of when you place your order. An optional delivery contribution of £1.70 per order for deliveries within the UK will be suggested during checkout, to help us cover costs. This gift in action

In villages like Intedeyni in rural Mali, Oxfam is training and supporting dedicated people to inspire families to send their children – especially girls – to school. Manena Issafeytane is one of these people. She is an Oxfam-trained animatrice. It means that she’s someone who helps make things happen, which equates to getting as many children as possible attending class. It’s a role at which she excels, having discovered the benefits of schooling for herself: “When I was old enough, I was taken to the nearest secondary school. I was really lucky I had a father who understood the importance of education.” And no one is more passionate about passing on the lesson: “I meet all the parents in the village and surrounding communities to talk about the value of learning.” And while she used to have walk long distances, Oxfam has made her job easier by providing a donkey cart. “I am particularly proud of the number of girls that have enrolled in school, because it’s a problem persuading mothers that they can manage without their daughters’ help. I had to visit some families three or four times before I finally convinced them.” And thanks in part to Manena’s perseverance, Intedeyni school recorded a true milestone. For the first time ever, every pupil in its 6th grade class – 13 boys and 13 girls – passed their final exams and have gone on to secondary school.
