A history of York Minster

£14.99

Product description

Published 1977 on an initiative from the Dean and Chapter of York. Much new knowledge of the Minster's history was becoming available. Archaeological investigation of the site had begun in conjunction with the urgently required strengthening of the building's foundations. The book was to treat the Minster not only as an architectural monument but also as a place of worship and a social unit with a continuing history. Its publication marked the 1350th anniversary of the founding of the Minster.
Twelve contributors have each written chapters covering, in addition to its history, the architecture, stained and painted glass, music, funeral monuments and the library. A full colour plate of a stained glass window acts as the frontispiece and there are many other plates of illustrations in black and white.
The dust jacket is missing and the pages have slight yellowing at the edges but in other respects the book is in very god condition.
