Introduction to the Theology of Karl Barth

£13.99

Product description

Karl Barth's most important work is, without question, the 12-volume Church Dogmatics. Now Geoffrey Bromily, whose lifelong encounter with Barth's work has included translating the Church Dogmatics into English, has written this helpful Introduction to the Theology of Karl Barth.

"To provide some simple but real knowledge of Barth's theology constitutes the compelling reason for this introduction," says Bromily. As Barth's theology found its expression mainly through the Church Dogmatics, Bromily has structured his study to follow the basic organisation of Barth's work, methodically and concisely summarizing it, and suggesting possible lines of evaluation.

Bromiley does not attempt, as some secondary works have done, to systemize the Dogmatics, or to group Barth's theology under some master concept such as grace or covenant or history. Barth himself specifically avoided this since he believed God, and not the doctrines are closely interwoven.

This introduction does not make an ultimate plea for or against Barth's theology. It presumes rather that an encounter with Barth is worthwhile in and for itself, and therefore allows the material the chance to make its own impact, first in summary form and then in Barth's own extended outworking.

In overall good condition.
