Karl Marx On Colonialism & Modernization

£27.99

Product description

This volume brings together all of Marx's writings on the non-European world. While the bulk of the book is the newspaper articles he wrote in English while he was the New York Daily Tribune's London correspondent (and a few by Engels written at Marx's request), they are framed by excerpts from his theoretical writings, most notably from the Communist Manifesto, and there is a generous selection from his letters. The editor's Introduction relates these writings to Marxism as a political philosophy and to a basic issue of contemporary politics: Marxism in what is now called the Third World. Marx was aware that his theory historic and economic development seemed applicable only to the Western world, and he devised intricate arguments to try to include Asia - which gives this book a special pertinence today when Marxism has become so significant in the non-European world.
