Shakespeare, Plautus and the Humanist Tradition

£24.99

Product description

This book represents the author's researches into the impact of Plautus and his comedy on the works of Shakespeare, particularly the 'Comedy of Errors'. The relationship between this play and the Plautine works 'Amphitruo' and 'Menaechmi' is explored in depth, and offers a contrast to the more usual view that the principal influences on Shakespeare were from the native popular tradition.

Wolfgang Riehle (1937-2015) was Professor Emeritus of English at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz and a Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. His many books included "The Middle English Mystics" and "Shakespeare, Plautus, and the Humanist Tradition".

Our book is in excellent condition, protected by an equally good dust jacket protected by a mylar cover. price-clipped, but with a price sticker of £45.00 in place. There are no signs of wear or use externally. Inside, the picture is equally good - the binding is firm, all pages clean and bright, and there is no annotation. For the specialist Shakespeare scholar, a worthy tome.
