Silent Book

£350.00

Product description

'Silent Book' has been described as Rio Branco's masterpiece, a dark rumination on sex, religion, and boxing, shot in a painterly abstract patina of dark reds; a visually poetic book of some rarity value. Published in 1998, it presents tableaux of bodies and spaces affected by time; decrepitude is magnified by the light, and wounded flesh, ageing and death haunt the work through earthy and blood red colours.

Miguel Rio Branco (b. 1946) is a multidisciplinary Brazilian artist and photographer, who has produced a number of books in the genre he describes as 'documentary poetry' - collections of striking photographs or pictures, with no textual commentary, which nonetheless provide a narrative which the viewer can clearly understand.

Hardbound with photo-illustrated boards, and no jacket as issued, our copy is in excellent condition, appearing almost unused. There are 75 colour reproductions, and 3 gatefolds. It is signed by the artist on the back page and includes a pasted-in errata slip stating the year of publication as 1998 (see photo).
