The Tempest

£45.00

Product description

William Shakespeare's 'Tempest' is perhaps one of his more child-friendly plays, being a love story, a fantasy involving magic and wizardry, and with a certain amount of action as well. This edition was clearly designed to appeal to children, being copiously illustrated, and set in a pleasing typeface which is easy to read.

The author surely needs no introduction! The illustrator, Robert Anning Bell (1863-1933) was a well known artist and designer.

The book is in good condition for its age, bound in what was originally probably white cloth with generous gilt decoration to the front cover and spine; both the covers and spine are, however, considerably darkened with age, the spine particularly so; the back cover has several grubby stains. Corners are lightly bumped, and there is slight bowing. Top page edges are trimmed and gilded; other edges rough-cut. The illustrated endpapers are somewhat foxed, and some of the pages are also affected, but none seriously. The binding is generally firm and there are no loose pages. Each page has the Act and Scene number in red at the top. A delightful version of this much-loved play.
