This delightful series of some 20 titles, created in the 1960s for schoolchildren, are now quite collectible, and offer a comprehensive picture of daily life in the various countries and cultures considered. Written in simple, plain English, and adorned with many charming illustrations, they would have been a great resource for any teacher.
Marie Neurath (1898–1986) was a member of the team that developed the Vienna Method of Pictorial Statistics (Wiener Methode der Bildstatistik), which she later renamed "Isotype". She was also a prolific author and designer of educational books for younger readers.
Our book is in good condition, bound in textured paper over hard covers, in a tricoloured illustrated design; no dust-wrapper. Titles etc in black lettering on front and spine. Minor signs of use externally, with lightly bumped corners and some loss of colour here and there. Inside, there are no free endpapers (?possibly never present), and the pasted endpapers show slight browning and minimal darker spots. Adjacent pages are slightly crinkled as if in contact with liquid at some time, but otherwise, the binding is firm and all the body of the book is clean and bright. A nice copy.
