About this item
An elegant double set of Patience (small) playing card decks in leather-bound 'books', each deck complete and with three jokers plus maker's card. The cards were made by Ferd. Piatnik of Vienna, origin uncertain but may be 1930s (Piatnik's dates from the early 19th century). The cards are lightly glazed.
The 'books' are 'titled' IDLE MOMENTS and LET US PLAY respectively, have gilt titling on black and red leather, and both measure 6.5 x 5 x 2.5 cm. They are conjoined and fasten together with a pop stud. The cards both show floral designs (blue and red respectively) on the backs and measure 6.5 x 4.5 cm. The number cards all feature the Piatnik horse and jockey logo, trade mark 9153.
Both card decks are an in excellent condition, with little or no fading and no marks, dirt or flaws, particularly at the edges. The 'books' are both sound and intact and have not been forced apart, but the leather 'binding' of the red deck is working loose at the top and bottom and shows 1cm tears (see photos).
A very nice set in fine condition, only one other like it found online.
