The Vintage Story

In 2010 Oxfam launched the UK's first online vintage charity shop, offering shoppers the luxury of browsing for one-off vintage finds from the comfort of their homes.

To celebrate and promote the beautiful and individual pieces available from the Oxfam online vintage shop we hunted down the best clothing and accessories and set a team of top fashion names a challenge. We asked them to capture the beauty of Oxfam vintage fashion and also, because each piece has been personally donated to an Oxfam shop from someone's own wardrobe, to tell the stories and heritage of Oxfam vintage.

Fashion uber-team creates ads for Oxfam

Our top team created a series of stunning print and film ads for Oxfam vintage clothing. Shot by renowned fashion photographer Robert Erdmann, with models from Elite and FM and creative from RKCR/Y&R, the series of authentically styled adverts feature unique vintage outfits sourced from Oxfam shops. Themed around the style of the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's they beautifully encapsulate the vibe and spirit of the eras.

1940s

1950s

1960s

Best known for his work with celebrity names including Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie and Rihanna for leading fashion titles from Tatler, Marie Claire and Glamour to I-D and GQ. Robert Erdmann said-

An item of vintage clothing is much more than fabric and stiches - each piece tells a unique story I wanted to capture how one dress can instantly transport its wearer back to a bygone era, evoking glamour, elegance or mischievousness in a second

- Robert Erdmann

The beauty of fashion is that it can be recycled and reused again and again. A treasured item donated by one person could have a second life with someone else for years to come.

These new ads show that it can easily be achieved by dressing from Oxfam - with the knowledge that a vintage outfit will not only be a complete one-off but supports sustainability and raises money for valuable causes.

- Sarah Farquhar, Oxfam's Head of Retail

This series of stunning adverts showcasing the best in Oxfam vintage fashion have since appeared in top titles including Vogue, Elle, Tatler, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire and Glamour"

The Real Stories behind Oxfam Vintage Clothing

When you donate your vintage item to a shop, we would love to hear the story behind it, like this beautiful vintage Jaeger coat tagged with the story of the lady who donated it and how it came into her possession. Then we can pass it on so someone else can treasure your gem for years to come. To locate your nearest shop use our shop finder. Visit Oxfam's online vintage shop for unique one offs.
