This following list provides a brief summary of the key things you will need to have ready before you make your first application to steward in 2013.
Please ensure you have also read our FAQs and other information on our website before you apply, so you are familiar with what stewarding involves.
You will need to have ready...
- A valid debit or credit card
To pay your deposit of up to £205 depending on which festivals you chose to go to. We cannot accept payment by cheque or American Express. Your deposit will be refunded onto the same card shortly after your last festival of the season upon successful completion of your shifts.
- A digital passport style photo
To be used on your 2013 stewarding ID card. Please ensure the photo is the same quality as you would use to apply for a UK passport. It also needs to be in the .jpg format. It is a requirement that your photo is suitable to be used on a festival security pass in order for you to steward.
- Your national insurance number
Due to restrictions on volunteering in the UK and some festival licensing requirements we are required to provide all stewards national insurance numbers to festival organisers. For this reason we will ask you to enter this as part of your application. If you are eligible to volunteer in the UK but do not have a national insurance number, you will have the option to declare this as part of your application.
- Your availability for the summer
If you are a new steward or have not trained in the last four years, you will need to book a training session at the same time you select your festival place(s). You will also need to agree to be available for all of the stewarding onsite dates at each festival you sign up for, so please make sure you know your full availability for the summer.
- Your travel plans
As part of your application, you will need to tell us how you are travelling to each festival, for example, by car, getting a lift or by public transport. Please have this information to hand before you apply. If you are planning to bring a car or campervan, you will also need to provide your registration number as part of your application.
- Reference details
Unless you have stewarded with Oxfam twice before, you will need to provide details of a referee. Their name, the position held, daytime telephone number, email address and company/organisation name. You should know these people in a professional capacity, they should not be related to you and you must have known them for a minimum of 6 months.
- Emergency contact details
In the unlikely event that you have a medical emergency onsite at a festival, we may be asked to provide your doctor's details to medical staff. You will need to provide your doctor's name, surgery address and phone number, as part of your application. You will also be asked to provide the name and phone number of an emergency contact, who will not be with you at the event.
- Shift Partners
If you want to work with a friend or group in a shift partner group, you will need to supply the full names and date of births of the people you want to be matched with so we can allocate them as your shift partners.
Add festivals@oxfam.org.uk, festivalreferences@oxfam.org.uk, creditcardprocessing@oxfam.org.uk and stewards@oxfam.org.uk to your contacts list within your email account to ensure you to receive our confirmation emails and other important emails we will need to send you during the festival season.
As part of your application, you will need to agree to the Oxfam Stewarding Terms of Reference. Please have a read of these in advance of applying. For more information on the application process, and for tips on adding additional festivals, see our application process FAQs.
