The challenge
One epic adventure
Sometimes, maybe just once in a lifetime, you get the chance to achieve something really great.
A chance to prove something to yourself. Something to give you that ‘wow’ factor.
Trailtrekker is one of those chances.
Trailtrekker is a 100km trek for teams of four, over 30 hours (yes, that’s day and night!) across the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Around 300 teams take part in the event each year, all raising money to help people in poverty.
"One of THE most demanding team and personal challenges you could undertake. You will learn things about yourself and your teammates!"
Scott Cummines, Mounting Gorillas
The route is challenging, and it requires great determination and teamwork. But in return, you’ll get a fantastic sense of achievement and the money you raise will make a real difference.
Choose your challenge
If you do not want to take on the full 100km trek, you can opt to take up the shorter Bronze (40km) or Silver (65km) distances. You will follow the same route as the Gold (100km) trekkers, but finishing at the relevant distance checkpoint along the course.
Bronze Challenge (40km)
Time allowed : 12.5hours
The bronze challenge covers the most spectacular sections of the Trailtrekker course. From Skipton, teams head out to Gargrave along the canal then turn north to Malham and Checkpoint 1. Now comes the longest and toughest section on the course – almost 15km up the steps of Malham cove, around Malham Tarn then up and over the long ascent of Fountains Fell (668m). After a quick rest at Waterstop 2 all is left is a short section over the shoulder of Pen-Y-Ghent and down into Horton in Ribblesdale, Checkpoint 2 and your finish line.
Silver Challenge (65km)
Time allowed : 21.5 hours
The Silver challenge now rejoins the Pennine Way heading north with fantastic views over the Yorkshire Dales. After a long climb teams reach Waterstop 3 with all the main difficulties of their challenge behind them. From here, the route continues along the Dales way as darkness falls. Largely downhill and soft underfoot the final 15km follow a river along the beautiful Langstrothdale all the way to Buckden, Checkpoint 3, and your finish line.
Gold Challenge (100km)
Time allowed : 30 hours
The Gold challenge now continues into the night sections down Wharfedale in the direction of Skipton. Teams start with a long 14km section featuring a tough 220m ascent via Kettlewell to Checkpoint 4 at Conistone. Now comes the most magical section of the course – up and over Malham moor with the sun rising it’s time to turn off those head torches and focus on the finish. From Waterstop 5 at Hetton one final 11km stage lead teams back to Skipton and the Gold finish line.
