The situation

Fighting between government forces and rebels has left 922,000 people displaced in the Central African Republic with another 245,000 fleeing to neighbouring countries. Due to ongoing insecurity, it continues to be extremely difficult for people to obtain food and many in the capital Bangui are living off one meal per day. Thousands of displaced people living in rapidly expanding camps are in desperate need of clean water and sanitation.

Oxfam's response

Oxfam is supporting people in camps with water and sanitation. We will be distributing hygiene kits and latrines. We have also begun water trucking to the camps to supply clean water to displaced people. Our response will also include work to protect people from violence.

Across the border in Chad, Oxfam is supporting refugees who have fled violence in the Central African Republic with water and food assistance.
