In 2019, Cyclones Idai and Kenneth killed hundreds of people and left homes and farmland destroyed. We are supporting the hardest hit people with food and water, as well as with long-term development projects to help people better cope with climate-related shocks.

We are supporting people to

  • Split peas being poured into a bucket at a food distribution point

Survive today by helping people survive the drought

We are responding to the drought in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique which has affected more than 10 million people. We are providing cash in Zimbabwe so people can buy food they desperately need.

  • Water flows from a tap into a yellow water container. Emmely stands in the background.

Prepare for tomorrow by improving infrastructure and providing healthcare training

In Mozambique we are improving water points, and training community activists in health education to help in the fight against cholera.

  • A pair of hands hold seeds

Adapt for the future by helping farmers adapt to a changing climate

Oxfam is providing long term support to help farmers adapt to an unpredictable future – for example, by diversifying crops and adapting farming techniques.

We rebuilt our house and now we have started planting maize and rice. But we have a problem with locusts. It’s getting worse. Every single plant. It’s going to be hard this year. Difficult. I’ve never had these locusts before.”
