12,000 of you have voiced your concern for Syria

More than 12,000 people signed our petition on Syria for Ban Ki-moon.

Our CEO, Barbara Stocking, took your signatures to Ban, the UN Secretary General. Barbara says: "I raised our concerns about the safety and security of the people of Syria, and told him that many people in the UK were very concerned, and that 12,000 people had responded to our call to action."

We know that the United Nations continues to work hard on the Syria issue, and your support helps increase their credibility.

Unfortunately, the situation hasn't improved greatly. Tens of thousands of men women and children are still displaced. And in parts of Syria, deadly violence continues despite the 'ceasefire.' The need for real peace and the protection of civilians is as great as ever.

Conflicts like this are fuelled by the easy availability of small arms and ammunition. As Jeff Abramson, Director of Control Arms Secretariat, says, "It is beyond unacceptable that the world cannot agree that weapons should no longer be flowing to governments like that of Syria." One way you can help try to improve the situation in Syria is to support an international Arms Trade Treaty to control the arms used to fuel conflicts like this one.

We'll keep you updated as the situation develops.

Update: Sorry for the incorrect figure originally posted. This has now been updated.
