Oxjam fundraising events - Summer 2017

Another year of Oxjam is on its way. Whilst for many people, Oxjam is all about the main festival events in October, as ever, the Festival teams are busy organising amazing fundraising events throughout the year.

Bristol Poker night

Oxjam Bristol are established as one of the most successful Oxjam teams in the country, and have been looking at great ways of engaging the public with non-music events, as well as the traditional music events that many associate with Oxjam. This year they have raised over £640 through a poker tournament. Participants paid into a prize pot and donated half of their entry to Oxjam. If you are interested in organising a similar event, please ensure that participants are only gambling responsibly and are only taking part for fun.

Bowie Night: We can be Heroes

At Oxjam HQ we were all pretty upset when the iconic David Bowie passed away last year. However, we have found there is a lot of love for the Thin White Duke, and Oxjam Southwark are organising a special night to celebrate all things Bowie. From Bowie Karaoke, face paint, props, special prizes and a quiz, it promised to be a great event in London.

Oxjam Shoreditch Comedy Night

Comedy nights are becoming more and more popular on the Oxjam scene, with comedy stages at the festivals now a regular site. Oxjam Shoreditch hosted their own comedy night in June as their first fundraiser. Showcasing some of the best up-and-coming comedians London has to offer, with a special performance from Chicago Style improvisation experts, Monkey Toast, the event was a great success and a special way to start the fundraising for the new Shoreditch team.

...and for a bit of inspiration: Leighton Buzzard

Oxjam Leighton Buzzard celebrated their 10th Birthday this year, and were one of the first teams to become a Takeover Team in 2009. They have been such a long standing team, that they run their festival in March and April, the months Oxjam used to fall in. This means most Oxjam eyes are keenly watching Leighton Buzzard to set the tone for the year, and as ever the event was amazing. This year, the team raised £6,000, taking their total donations over the past ten years to a staggering £49,730!! Thank you, Leighton Buzzard for your continued, amazing support.
