In its second year as Official Event Charity Sponsor, Oxfam will be attending the London Mela on September 1st at Gunnersby Park and, to showcase the amazing clothes available at Oxfam shops, we'll be hosting a spectacular fashion show three times at the event.

The Mela is a celebration of South Asian culture and creativity; a feast of music, food and arts. With heavy involvement from the BBC Asian Network and supported by the Mayor of London, it's sure to be nothing short of magnificent.

Oxfam are working closely with fabulous fashion designer Neishaa Gharat who will use Oxfam sourced clothes and accessories plus a healthy dose of creativity to create exquisite garments to hit the runway. Each show will be a combination of redesigned, reconstructed and simply styled ensembles by the designer who has a healthy background in fashion and design and was awarded 'Shining Woman Entrepreneur' by Readers Digest.

On the day, models from TMP model agency will take to the catwalk to show just how fashionable it is to shop in Oxfam. After the event, all Neishaa's catwalk creations and looks will be available to buy on the Oxfam Online Shop.

In preparation for the Mela, Neishaa has been visiting a number of Oxfam shops plus Oxfam's two warehouses, Batley Wastesaver and Milton Point, to hunt down the perfect array of clothes for the shows.

Summary of Neishaa's visits to Oxfam Shops, Milton Point and Batley Wastesaver.

Milton Point and Batley Wastesaver are dominant forces in Oxam's sorting and online listing processes. Oxfam shops generally try and sell any fabulous public donations in their shops but, if not, stock gets sent to Wastesaver and/or Milton Point to be resold, reused or recycled. The key is that nothing goes to waste!
Neishaa and the Oxfam team spent some time last week sorting through all the Oxfam finds and the best were modelled by the lovely Avni Kapoor. They photographed some fabulously styled looks which will feature in the show as well as picking out the items to be upcycled, which will take centre stage.

Over the coming weeks she and the team will work on the designs and Oxfam Fashion will bring you weekly updates in the run up to the MELA. Next week we'll let you in on some of the key themes and inspirations behind Neishaa's selections!
