The Festival of Thrift is just around the corner and Oxfam's Team Fash are getting VERY excited.

The thrifty event, focusing on upcycling, recycling and general sustainability, is being held on 21st and 22nd September at Lingfield Point in Darlington and is completely free entry!

This is just one of the festivals co-curated by Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway MBE, the duo who brought us The Vintage Festival and have a wealth of experience in design and sustainability.

Wayne & Gerardine Hemmingway

Gerardine was kind enough to pick out her top five items from top vintage shopping destination the Oxfam Online Shop…

Her first choice is this slinky, velvet Camilla Kulin wrap around dress which is estimated to be from the 1960s.Gerardine says: "every girl needs a few Little Black Dresses in their wardrobe"

Next up is an essential vintage accessory - the silk scarf. This one has a bold colour combination and statement geometric print and is dated from the 1960s. Gerardine says: "I have got quite a few vintage silk scarves (well that's an understatement)...this will jazz up a plain dress."

This vintage Kadix dress is typical of 1980s style with a bold print and exaggerated silouhette. Gerardine says: "amazing how the 80s can look so right, grey , black 80s so right"

A gold, lurex Escada jumpsuit is Gerardine's next pick and a fantastically statement item from the 80s. Gerardine says: "Jumpsuits are go!" - and we certainly agree!

Her final item is a pair of suede, green culottes by Beth Brett which are simply exquisite. Gerardine says: "Culottes ...if you haven't tried them then you haven't lived."

The Oxfam Vintage shop, curated by Oxfam Durham Boutique and Oxfam Darlington, will at the Festival of Thrift bringing you some of the best vintage finds from around the country amongst the rest of the weekend's attractions.
