DIY Vintage Button Embellishment

Go to the Oxfam Online Shop

My favourite outfit during winter is a casual dress, tights, Chelsea boots, a big snuggly scarf and the essential winter coat. However, what happens when you arrive at the coffee shop to meet your friend, lecture at university or meeting at work to reveal a dull, drab dress hidden by your winter necessities?
So, to solve this fashion dilemma I thought it might be nice to base this month's Oxfam DIY on jazzing up your day dress so that you never need to worry about what lies beneath your coat! Navigate your lovely selves to the Oxfam Shop Online or your local store and get purchasing for your DIY.

You will need:
• Oxfam dress/top/jumper
• Buttons
• Scissors
• Needle and thread

Step One:

After collecting all your buttons have a play around and choose where you think they may look best on your garment. You can place them close together or a little bit apart (like me) depending on how many buttons you have. Of course, any type of button is absolutely fine for this DIY but if you fancy being a little quirky and different to everyone else on the high street, have a root for some vintage buttons.

Step Two:

Unlike other things we may use for embellishment you can't really pin buttons in place so another way to remember where you placed each individual button is by taking a series of pictures so you can keep checking which button to sew on where!

Step Three:

Go along sewing each button and in around 20-30 minutes time, ta-da - you'll have created a whole new vintage look!
