70s Fashion in Denim and How to Wear It

Posted by Lorna Burford fashion blogger

Trends from the decades come back around and are reinvented all the time. The latest trend in denim to hit the catwalks during fashion week, and now seen on the high street are flares, bell bottoms, paper bag jeans and cropped trouser flares! 70's fashion is back in style, so right now I'm focusing flared jeans! Many of you might be daunted by such a wide leg jean, however, it definitely makes a statement! The key to wearing so much denim is in the styling! I've seen many fashion bloggers rocking their flared jeans and looking amazing!

Tall Ladies

If you are tall, you are lucky as you can get away with wide flares from the hips or from the knees, and they won't swamp your frame. Just make sure you have enough denim to cover your shoes to finish the effect! There's nothing worse than a pair of hot flares which are too short and end up flapping around!

Petite Ladies

If you are on the petite side like myself, you might want to opt for a slimmer flare from the knee down, rather than the wide flare. The key is to make sure they are tight through the thigh and then drift into the flare at the knee. Again, you need to make sure your jeans are long enough to cover your shoes, not only so they don't flap, but also if your shoes are hidden, it gives the effect of adding a few more inches to your leg length.

Glammed Up

Think about dressing flares up with a shirt, a structured blazer and a pair of heels. This can look classic and sophisticated for a dinner out or even a 'low key' party. Accessorise with some jewellery and a nice clutch and you are all set! I'm thinking Victoria Beckham and Cindy Crawford here as both ladies love a look like this!

Laid Back

If you prefer the laid back Californian vibe, pairing the flared jeans with cropped tops or slouchy t-shirts and finishing off with a fedora and sunglasses is another amazing way to go! I think it looks perfect on either tall or petite ladies and it reminds me of Vanessa Hudgens or Rachel Zoe. They have the Californian Chic vibe down to a T!
