5 Minute DIY: Tank Top to Waistcoat

DIY Waistcoat from a Tank Top

Over the past few months I have been searching for a simple black waistcoat to pair with cream lace dresses and black denim cut-offs to complete the perfect festival outfit. Having not found the waistcoat I was after, I set about DIY-ing a basic tank top found in my local Oxfam store.

This short but sweet fashion DIY is perfect if you are searching for festival fashion pieces on a budget, or you're looking for ways to re-invent your basics.

Step 1: Mark the centre of your basic tank and cut.

Step 2: Press and pin the cut edges under twice so raw edges are hidden and the waistcoat is neatly finished.

Step 3: Stitch the pressed edges using a sewing machine.

Once the edges have been finished you can add decorative trims/motifs to make your waistcoat unique and exciting - perfect for any festival with denim shorts and a crochet crop top.

I'm looking forward to chucking this waistcoat on over my festival outfits this summer. It will go with everything from pretty floral dress to crochet tunics to scruffy shorts and a band tee. Versatility at it's best!
