Reaction to International Development Committee report on aid to Afghanistan:

"The UK government is showing admirable international leadership through sustaining its level of aid to Afghanistan, one of the world's poorest countries. Because of international aid a record number of boys and girls now go to school. Afghanistan's future relies on these children and their potential. Huge challenges of extreme poverty, the position of women and corruption remain. The hard won gains of recent years need to be secured and aid needs to target the most vulnerable, boost the position of women and support local initiatives to hold Afghanistan's authorities to account," said Shaheen Chughtai, Oxfam Policy Advisor.
