Reaction to President Trumps announced withdrawal from the Paris Climate agreement

1st Jun 2017

In response to President Trump's announced withdrawal from the Paris Climate agreement, Oxfam's Director of Campaigns, Matthew Spencer, said:

"President Trump's move is utterly short-sighted, but it won't derail international action on climate change as he may wish. Despite his decision, the Paris Agreement and momentum on global co-operation to tackle climate change will continue.

"Standing up to US defeatism on climate change is now a big test for UK political leadership. The world's poorest people need us to continue to take action to help protect them from the worst impacts of climate change, and we can still make progress without the current US president, if we stand with our more reliable allies

"Oxfam witnesses at first hand the extreme impacts of climate change on the world's most vulnerable people. Right now, 13 million people are facing extreme hunger in East Africa as a result of a devastating drought made worse by climate change."
