Philippines Appeal

Ten days ago I first heard the news about a typhoon hitting the Philippines. Over the days that followed horrifying images emerged of the devastation left in its wake.

This week, Oxfam Scotland has joined with other charities to launch a Disasters Emergency Committee appeal. Watch the launch film here.

The generosity of Scots in responding to this has been tremendous with £2,680,000 raised in Scotland in the first 24hours of the appeal alone. This will help organisations on the ground reach those most in need, delivering lifesaving water, food and shelter.

You can donate to Oxfam's appeal here.

If you've already donated and want to do more the check out this blog.

As we work to support this urgent appeal colleagues are attending the annual climate change talks being held this year in Warsaw.

The Filipino delegation opened the talks with a moving testimony of the impact of this typhoon. While recognising that no one storm of this sort can easily be attributed to climate change, as worldwide temperatures rise the frequency and ferocity of such storms is also set to increase.
