Kaoru Kawano; signed, black flower print

£249.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This is a signed print of the black flower design by Kaoru Kawano. Matted in a complementary, possibly bamboo texture, and simply framed. The print also bears the characteristic red stamp.

Kaoru Kawano was born in Hokkaido. He had studied art at Kawabata Art School.

After world war II Japanese sosaku hanga artists surprised the world by winning prizes in international art exhibitions. Kaoru Kawano was one of them. His reputation became international with solo exhibitions in North America and elsewhere. The style of Kaoru Kawano with its simplified compositions is typical for the era after around 1950. But the artist managed to combine Western style elements with the old tradition of woodblock printmaking. Knowledgeable collectors appreciate Kaoru Kawano for the way how he integrated the grain patterns of the woodblock into the design.

The frame needs attention but the print and matte are in excellent condition.
