The full title reads: A Dictionary of the English Language; Exhibiting the Origin, Orthography, Pronunciation, and Definitions of Words by Noah Webster, LL.D. To Which Are Added A Synopsis of Words Differently Pronounced by Different Orthoepists, and Walker’s Key to the Classical Pronunciation of Greek, Latin, and Scripture Proper Names. Revised and Enlarged by Chauncey A Goodrich, Professor in Yale College. With the Addition of a Vocabulary of Modern Geographical Names, with their Pronunciation. This is a very scarce early edition of Websters famous dictionary, now in need of some repair work. Original black calf hard covers with blind-stamped outlining round the boards, raised bands on the spine. The boards have edge and corner wear and surface scuffing; the back board has a crease across the lower corner; the spine is fragile with surface and edge wear, tears in the binding at the top and base of the front hinge, and part of the title panel detached (is stored inside the front cover). Marbled endpapers, the first free (marbled) endpaper is missing. The hinges have completely detached from the text block at the pastedowns and old, failed sellotape repairs are visible. The first five endpapers are detached. Foxing on the endpapers and occasionally in the text. No inscriptions and the bulk of the binding od the text block is sound. Priced for condition.
