A scarce copy of this collection of nineteen tales intended to scare children from such dangerous activities as bird-nesting, playing with gunpowder or throwing stones, and "The Vanity of Beauty"! In poor condition but complete.

Original mauve blind-stamped boards faded to grey, worn and scuffed. Spine sides split, roughly stitched to back board. Binding very loose, front hinge split and ffep missing, other foldings restitched. A few loose pages and many almost detached. Grubby and much handled! Engraved frontis and header illus to each chapter, all coloured in. [8], 176 pp + 8pp publisher's catalogue (for Superior Juvenile Works) to rear.
