Published between 1952 and 1975 by Her Majesty's Stationery Office (HMSO) for the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, England. This set covers the County of Dorset. It comprises five volumes spread over eight books. Red cloth board covers with gilt lettering on spine and lettering with coat of arms on front covers. Dust jackets have been removed. This set is of uneven quality. Most covers are faded and worn in places. Volume 1 (West Dorset) is in the poorest condition with loose binding and one page detached. Volume 4 (North) and Volume 5 (East) are in the best condition.

Illustrated with hundreds of black & white plates and numerous drawings and plans in the text, plus some folding plans and maps in rear pockets.
