Arithmetical Questions, On A New Plan. For the Use of Young Ladies.

£49.99

Product description

"Arithmetical Questions, On a new Plan: designed as a supplement to the author's engraved Introduction to Arithmetic and intended to answer the double purpose of Arithmetical Instruction and Miscellaneous Information. To which are subjoined , Observations on Weights and Measures, with a complete collection of arithmetical tables, and explanatory remarks; Also a Copious Index of persons, places, and things, occasionally treated of, or mentioned in the work. For the Use of Young Ladies."

William Butler 1801 Third Edition Enlarged Printed for the author by S Couchman, Throgmorton Street. Other later editions are available from sellers in better condition but this early third edition is very rare.

Very early book on arithmetic for ladies to read to fill their vacant hours and stop them reading frivolous romances!

Condition is poor with the front cover detached and back cover almost the same. The owner has drawn inside the front cover and there are faded inscriptions in the back and front. Reads "Henning Wood Book, Wildmore Fen, August 27 1812 Anno Dominina" (sp?) With two mathematical equations and some doodling as well as a doodled owl. Rear cover has "Death of Captain..." but the rest is unclear, and a large circle.

A fascinating piece of history!
